Hi everybody! My name is Moon and just recently I uncovered a mystery!
I am 16 years old and I study in Cranbourne High School with my little cousin sisters who are in primary. My best friend’s name is Selene. She comes from a Greek family but moved to Australia at the age of 4. So, anyway, I am going to tell you about a few mysterious people who call themselves the MAS Agency. So, get comfy!
One day, Selene and I were heading back home after our daily self-defense session. Suddenly, a car stopped in front of us and 3 men jumped out and ran into the abandoned hospital across the road. We both looked at each other and with one nod, we ran after the men.
The hospital was damp and dusty. Coughing softly, we pushed aside curtains and peered into the hallway. I scanned the hall and spotted the men. They were dressed in black and were talking to someone on the phone. Selene heard the conversation and reported it to me. It went “Yes... They have taken the bait. Now we can take them in. (A pause) They seem rather smart. It is a good thing we are going to take them in. One of them thinks that we are missing. Let’s hope we can get your kid here in time.” At the last sentence I gasped. It seemed as if they were talking about me. My parents had been missing for the past 12 years of my life. I sighed with nostalgia at the memory of them.
The men had started to walk down the hall. Suddenly, they stopped and opened an old and creaky door. They stepped in and started walking but we couldn’t hear any footsteps. So we walked in too and then... We were inside a cave full of sharp and pointy rocks. Selene whispered “Moon, is this a good idea? It seems as if they are leading us somewhere.” I replied kindly “Selene, it’s going to be all right. I’ll mark this place so that we can’t get lost.” She nodded and so we ventured in further.
We hadn’t got far when a tunnel appeared out of nowhere. We went down it and reached a blue and gray door. I held up three fingers and mouthed, three, two, one and bam! The door blast open and we fell into a pit. Screaming loudly, we closed our eyes and hit... a bunch of mattresses. I opened my eyes and gaped at the sight that greeted me. Someone who looked very familiar was standing over me holding a black cloth bag. She held one finger to her mouth and put the bag over my head. It was complete darkness. I heard her taking something metallic and putting it on my hands. She had put a pair of handcuffs on me. Wondering what would happen next, I heard Selene getting the same treatment. She had put up a little bit of struggle. The woman pulled us up and made us walk for some time. Then I felt something on my arm. Like a needle. I also heard my friend say “Ouch!” very softly. And then, I fell asleep.
When I woke up the bag was still on my head, but I was tied to a chair tightly. I realized that someone had tranquilized us, and that it was supposed to be working for a few more minutes. Then, the bag was pulled off and I pretended to be sleeping. Peeking through my eyes, I saw a young woman who looked like me, talking to a man worriedly with hand gestures. I heard Selene getting up, so I copied her. The sudden light blinded me, and I quickly felt the ropes on my legs being pulled off. Wincing at the pain, I saw the people around and I knew who the leader was immediately. The leader was the young woman who was talking with the strange man I saw. I asked her “Who are you and what do you want with us?” She was stunned for a minute and laughed. Everyone laughed with her too. She said “Well, you’ve certainly got my fierce spirit. We want only you, Moon Ashley. We took your friend with you because I know you’d like some company.” She turned to Selene. “As for you, daughter of the moon, I see that you are my daughter’s best friend. Am I right?” Selene said “Yes, I am Moon’s best friend. But as she said, who are you?” The woman stood up and spread her hands. She said “Well, I am Ashley Garcia and I am Moon’s mother.” In my mind, dramatic music filled the room.
We were untied and my mother apologized for tying us up. They were on ‘high security’ as they called it. She said that a mission was going on and she wanted our help. The mission was:
A very valuable horse had gone missing just three days ago. The horse’s owner would give the finder of her horse whatever they wanted. Its name was Mystery. It had a dappled black coat with star-like shapes thrown around on her body.
I eagerly accepted, but on one condition. The condition was that she had to show herself to my aunt and my little cousins. She was ok with that. Then, I asked her more questions. Where do I go? What do I do? What is the name of her company? She said “You have to go to House no. 1000 St Kilda’s Road, ok? There is something there that will help you. As for what you have to do, well, you just have to wait and see. The name of my company is MAS Agency. MAS stands for Mill, Ashley and Sam. I’ve answered your questions. Now, go fast! But wait! Here are some ID’s to get you through lines and security. And down that tunnel are vehicles that you can use. They are AI vehicles so you can do auto drive.” We nodded and ran down the tunnel.
When we reached the end of the tunnel, there were two bikes. Both were super shiny. I and squealed with delight. We climbed on and rode them all the way till St Kilda’s Road.
At house number 1000, there was a scanner. I put my ID up to it and so did Selene. The gates opened silently. We went in and then... a pit opened underneath our feet and for the second time in that day, we fell screaming.
We landed on pillows that were super soft. I got up and looked around. We were in a training room. There were lasers, a balance beam, uneven bars, how to identify a trap and, of course, escape from a trap with your hands tied up. There was a suit generator and Selene stepped inside it. The door closed and then opened. Selene was dressed in a black suit with detective glasses and was standing in a pose. I also went in and got the same treatment as her. And then, the training started. I went for the uneven bars and Selene went for balance beam. Once we were done, we did vice versa again and again until we could do it with our eyes closed. Then we did team training. Lasers were our first. I could analyze the beams and so we got out of lasers easily. Selene was an expert at identifying traps. There were bear traps, pit traps, tiger pits and etc. To escape a trap was a bit harder. I could get out silently and untie the other person in quick moves while we were trapped. But Selene could help me escape when we got trapped in compressing walls. So then 9 hours later, we were finished and ravenous. I cooked up a little something and we ate. As we ate, I saw something that might help us. It was a bracelet. I realized that it would project anything we needed. My best friend found a laser that would cut through anything so we could sneak in and out of traps if necessary. But, of course, the gadgets needed rest if used more than 6 times in a day. The bracelet suddenly projected a video, so we listened to it.
We had to go to North Cranbourne to house number 5, which was the scene of the crime. We showed our ID’s and they let us through. We searched the entire place. We found no mark. Then I used my bracelet to see if there were any fingerprints and found one fingerprint which I somehow knew belonged to the thief. I tracked them and declared that it belonged to someone named Lionel. We found out that he lived in St Kilda itself. Together, Selene and I went down to his house.
When we reached, my friend kicked open the door and stood there, imposing and as beautiful as the moon. The guy inside was lean and mean, with crooked teeth. He looked scared out of his wits. He immediately cried “Please don’t lock me up. I had no idea that this horse was someone’s precious pet. I found her on the street chewing cud and looking unhappy. So, I brought her to my house and gave her some grass and milk. I gave her a bath. I combed her fur and brushed her mane. But she looks very sick. Please don’t lock me up!” I said softly “It’s ok. We won’t lock you up. But show us Mystery.” He nodded and led us to the back of his house. Mystery was there, chewing grass.
She was the prettiest horse I’d ever seen. I immediately knew why he wanted to take care of Mystery, though. I looked at her round tummy and realized this: she was with foal. I quickly told this to Selene and she told Lionel to call the vet. I called her owner and gave her the location. As I stepped forward, I fell down, deep inside a pit, hard on my right hand. It was a trap. Thankfully, I had trained for that type of situation. I tried climbing out, but it seemed as if I had broken my hand. Selene ran around looking for a rope. I remembered my bracelet. Would it have a rope? It did, and it also had a grappling hook. I attached the grappling hook and threw it up. It caught itself on something heavy and so I climbed up. It seemed like hours before I reached the top. But I reached and rushed to the hospital. When I got out, my mom was there. I hugged her. She had some good news. The foal was born and Selene and I could keep her! I couldn’t help but stare at my mother in amazement. This called for a party, for sure.
I went home with my mom and my aunt gasped with surprise at the sight of her sister who had been missing for so long! She hugged her so tight I thought Mom’s lungs would burst. But she didn’t let go. I hugged my little sisters and told them all about my adventure, about my training, about my bracelet, about the cool things my suit had and about Mom, but I left out the part about Mom’s agency.
The next day, I went to Selene and hugged her tightly. I told her that I wanted to do more adventures like this. I also asked her what the name of our foal should be. She thought about it and said one word “Moon.”
